Profile for: Raymond Archambault
Age 67,
Owner Archambault Antiques, Brooklyn, New York
Rare Antique book expert and seller
Physical description: Frequently wears 3-piece wool suits with tie optional. Average length silver hair, frequently mussed, wire-rimmed glasses, sorter than average but has an imposing presence.
Raymond Archambault, now 67, has run his rare book shop, Archambault Antiquities, in Brooklyn since inheriting it from his father in 1980. His love of books started as a child when he would explore his father’s vast inventory, fascinated by the strange artifacts and occult volumes.
Raymond eventually took over the business, growing the shop’s collection and reputation through shrewd acquisitions at estate sales and auctions. Though occasionally prickly, he enjoys sharing his expertise with patrons who appreciate the books as more than commodities.
Anja first visited the shop shortly after moving to the neighborhood, drawn in by the old books visible through the front windows. Raymond noted her genuine interest in the esoteric collection and her research background.
In exchange for Anja volunteering to help catalog and organize the cluttered shop, Raymond provides her access to read rare books related to her interests. He also supplies her with a regular stash of risqué gothic romance novels to entertain her.
Though an odd couple, Raymond recognizes a kindred spirit in Anja’s mystical leanings. Their conversations often run long as he regales her with the secret histories of strange artifacts acquired over the decades.
